As we get older, the taste buds begin to disappear from the sides and roof of the mouth, leaving just the taste buds on our tongues. These taste buds also become less sensitive. Adults have less sense of smell than children too and smell helps you taste food! So this may explain why children often like simpler foods and adults like strong, spicy or salty foods.
